What the Wine Critics Thought: Wine Advocate 91 Points
The 2006 Amancaya offers and attractive bouquet of cedar, tobacco, damp earth, black cherry, red currants, and black currants. Supple, forward, ripe and tasty, it conceals enough tannin to evolve for 2-3 years and will drink well through 2016. It is an outstanding value.
What We Thought: This blend of 50% Cabernet and 50% Malbec has a very expressive palate of ripe blackberry, with notes of licorice and dark chocolate, following a lightly scented cassis nose. Firm, Bordeaux-like tannins support the fruit and really make you wonder what this wine will be like in 10 years. Decant now or lay some down and see what happens... all the right elements are there.
