Pine Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon 1999 Rutherford, California $35
What the Wine Critics thought: Wine Spectator 90 points
Smooth-textured, with well-focused currant, toasty oak, black cherry and plum notes, it has excellent structure, depth and concentration. Finishes with a long, complex, even subtle aftertaste. Best from 2003 through 2012. Spectator Selection 5/15/2002
What we Thought:
It appears that 1999 vintage is going to produce some really outstanding Cabernets and this is one of them. Already approachable, this full-bodied wine leads with a big cedary classic Cabernet nose and gobs of dark cassis and blackberry fruit on both the nose and palate, all supported by well structured tannins that kick in on the finish. We decanted this young wine and gave it 30 minutes to open up. We found it to be very drinkable now but anticipate that it will improve in a cellar for at least 5 or 6 years and last a decade.
