Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon 1999 Alexander’s Crown, California $24
What the Wine Critics Thought: Wine Enthusiast 92 Points
From a vineyard at the southern end of the appellation, a soft, fruity and immensely likeable Cabernet. Don’t let the accessibility fool you. The upfront berry-cherry flavors and rich texture are instantly likeable, but there’s enough complexity and balance for the cellar.
What we Thought: Classically approachable Alexander Valley Cabernet with plenty of cedar and cassis on the nose and a rich palate of dark, brambly berries and black cherries. It is full-bodied with some drying tannins on the finish that promise more improvement in the cellar but rounded out nicely with a 15 minute decant.
