Grayson Cellars Chardonnay 2005 Sonoma, California

List Price: $10

A Mark Finch "Under $10" Review

What the Wine Critics Thought: Wine Advocate 87 Points A top-flight value in California Chardonnay, Grayson Cellars’ 2005 exhibits surprising character along with subtle notes of tropical fruit and orange blossoms. There is a hint of spice in this medium to full-bodied, fruity, pure, clean, refreshing white. It should be flexible with an assortment of seafood dishes.

What Mark Thought: You might be inclined to pass this wine by because of its uncompelling label and low price, but that would be a mistake. The Grayson Cellars Sonoma Chardonnay 2005 is a big, full-bodied oaky wine that exemplifies the traditional California style. If you're a fan of the Logan Chard of the last two vintages or the Sebastiani Chard of two vintages back, then this wine is for you. Good mouthfeel, no bitterness on the finish, and a 14.5 percent alcohol content make the Grayson Cellars Chardonnay a winner. Now if they'd just do something about that label....
